Engineering Applications in Detail

In the design of a product, under standing the stresses and strains to which it will be subjected is critical and requires significant engineering knowledge.

Often finite element analysis (FE) is used to evaluate the stress state in a given material under load. Good sound knowledge of basic engineering principles often allows simple calculations to get close to the required values.

For corded structures FE does not work well generally and for many rubber applications the model choice is critical. ARTIS has FE experts in house

Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of your materials allows you to concentrate the strength where required and reduce weight (and cost) where it isn’t.
Often this will lead to an improvement in performance almost as a by-product of the careful design work.
