Avon Rubber p.l.c unveils SonarBell™ at DSEi
Stand number: 2625
Avon Rubber p.l.c. is unveiling SALT’s newest product the revolutionary SonarBell™ at Defence Systems and Equipment International 2009 (DSEi).
The SonarBell™, which is a result of a collaboration between SALT, Avon Rubber p.l.c and ARTIS, is a maintenance free, passive sonar locator system, that operates by focusing energy like a lens to amplify sound levels and reflect them to the sender. Looking like a bowling ball, it utilises the two materials of its shell and core to create a constructive interference that delivers a higher return signal to the end user. The device is ‘solid state’ with no moving parts or power requirements, and is compatible with existing commercial sonar sets.
The SonarBell™ has been designed for applications such as locating and marking deepwater pipelines, undersea telephone and internet cables and marking international boundaries quicker and more efficiently – functions that have previously been difficult and costly. The target market therefore includes industries like oil and gas, telecommunications, defence and environmental organisations.
Alongside the SonarBell™, Avon will be showcasing its exciting range of next generation respiratory equipment. This will include the ST53™ multi-role modular Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) system. It is in service today with Military Special Forces, police specialist tactical units and Narcotic Clandestine Laboratory entry groups. This adaptable solution was developed for specialist applications where the user needs to respond to changing operational conditions. It combines Avon Protection Systems’ FM53 mask with new and innovative modular breathing apparatus technology to provide positive pressure SCBA and/or PAPR capability. It is available with a wide variety of accessories, which can be attached without the need for connecting devices.
Finally, visitors to the Avon Protection stand will be able to see other key respiratory equipment on show, including the EH20 and NH15 escape hoods, the M50 family of respirators and the legendary FM12. The EH20 provides a high level of respiratory, eye and face protection for up to 20 minutes to allow sufficient time to escape from a CBRN contaminated area. The FM53™, part of the 50 series range, is a unique product that has the ability to function as a negative pressure Air Purifying Respirator (ARP) or as a positive pressure Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) mask allowing ease of use in hostile CBRN environments. The FM12 is one of the most widely used respirators across the world by military and law enforcement organisations. It has CE and NIOSH CBRN certification, providing unprecedented levels of protection against all CBRN agents.
Matt Evans, Sales & Marketing Director, explains: “Our in-depth knowledge of both the CBRN threat and the customer operational requirements built up over 40 years has allowed us to design and build the next generation of products and masks, providing unprecedented levels of user friendliness, comfort, protection and integration of communication systems. By doing this, we are not only able to meet war fighters’ and emergency responders’ requirements in facing the asymmetric threat of the 21st Century, but also design and build innovative products that help organisations save valuable time and money in their operations.”
