Avon Protection Systems, part of Avon Rubber plc, is introducing a range of its key respiratory equipment to the Indian defence market at Defexpo 2008.

Delegates will be able to experience cutting edge equipment including the ST53 multi-role Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) system and the EH20 escape hood. Developed to fulfil an increasing demand from first responders for CBRN protection equipment, both respiratory systems will be available for demonstration on the stand.

The ST53 has been designed as a tactical self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) to meet a broad range of extreme threats. It includes the ability to switch between negative pressure and SCBA, meaning it is easy to use and very effective. This capability enables the operator to enter a hot-zone using SCBA (positive pressure) and switch to filter mode (negative pressure) allowing extended protection once the atmosphere has become less toxic. Transition is simple and efficient and does not compromise protection.

The EH20 escape hood is specifically designed to protect users against CBRN agents. It provides a high level of respiratory, eye and face protection for up 20 minutes to allow sufficient time to escape from a contaminated area. Use of the hood requires minimal training and it takes just 30 seconds to put on. It is stored in a vacuum sealed pouch small enough to wear on a belt, and has a ten year shelf-life.
