- Avon Protection Systems, part of Avon Rubber p.l.c., has received NIOSH approval under Title 42, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 84 (42 CFR 84) for the FM53 Air Purifying Respirator with the CTF12 riot agent canister. This respirator is approved under approval number TC-14G-0304 and offers protection from particulate hazards including dust, mist, fume, bacteria and virus, plus riot agents, Chlorobenzalmalononitrile (CS) and Phenacyl chloride (CN).

- Avon Protection Systems wants better protection for Police Officers
- During a recent adjournment debate in the House of Commons led by Wiltshire MPs Michael Ancram and Andrew Murrison, the Minister for Security, Counter-Terrorism, Crime and Policing Tony McNulty stated that it was the role of Chief Constables in each police force to purchase and supply the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) to all police officers to protect against the ACPO identified CBRN risks.

- The Atlantair range of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), which meets the growing need for SCBA by military units, is being launched into the worldwide market by Avon Protection Systems, part of Avon Rubber p.l.c., at DSEi, London, UK from 11-14 September 2007
- Multi-role CBRN protection system makes DSEi debut
- Military firefighters and CBRN units will gain greater operational flexibility from the latest purpose designed multi-role CBRN protection system to market. The revolutionary ST53 multi-role RPE system developed by Avon Rubber p.l.c.’s protection business, Avon Protection Systems, constitutes a new tactical concept. It is making its DSEi debut on the Avon Rubber p.l.c. stand (1833) from 11-14 September 2007, London, UK.
- Awarded $1.1 million contract with US Government
- Avon Rubber p.l.c.’s protection business has been awarded a $1.1 million Research and Development contract with the US Government, for the world’s most compact Escape Hood. It is based on enhanced technology from Avon’s EH20 Emergency Hood to meet the US Government requirements.
- New C50 Mask Receives Full NIOSH Approval
- Avon Protection, a division of Avon Rubber plc, has been awarded full NIOSH CBRN air purifying respirator certification for the new wide vision C50 respirator following CE certification in 2005. Derived from Avon’s acclaimed Joint Service General Purpose Mask ordered by the US Armed Forces, the C50 is generating worldwide orders amongst both the defence community and ‘first responders’ such as police, ambulance and fire services.
- APCO and Police Federation recommend
- The first purpose designed escape hood to protect against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) agents, has been recommended by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and the Police Federation to equip all the UK’s operational police officers at times of heightened security awareness. The EH20 escape hood developed by Avon Protection, a division of Avon Rubber plc, is entering service with a number of UK police forces as well as police services in other countries. The UK National Health Service has also procured the hood to provide escape protection to operatives who are potentially at risk, such as ambulance crews.
- Avon completes first batch production of M50 Mask
- Avon Protection, a division of Avon Rubber plc, has completed the initial production of its M50 Mask under the US Joint Services General Purpose Mask program and will begin production of the second batch shortly. During 2007 the M50 mask will be fielded with US forces in a number of locations.

- M53 NBC Mask enters service with US Special Operations Units
- The new M53 NBC Mask is entering service with US Special Operations Units, having received full approval from the US Government last year. Developed by Avon Protection, a division of Avon Rubber plc, the M53 is now in full rate production at the company’s US facility in Cadillac, Michigan.

- Avon Protection Systems Lands $112m US Government Mask Contract
- In a deal worth $112 million, Avon Protection Systems, part of Avon Rubber p.l.c., has been appointed by the US Government to supply M50 military respirators to all four US armed forces under the US Joint Services General Purpose Mask (JSGPM) program.
- Full rate production decision on M50 Mask for US JSGPM
- The Joint Program Executive Officer for Chemical and Biological Defence, has approved the Joint Service General Purpose Mask (“JSGPM”) Program for entry into the Full Rate Production Phase of Systems Acquisition. The first order is expected to be at the rate of 100,000 masks per annum and is anticipated to exceed $40 million. The minimum contract period is five years with subsequent orders of equal volumes including spares and accessories following year-on-year.

- New NH15 Emergency Escape Hood Receives Full NIOSH Approval
- Avon Protection Systems, part of Avon Rubber p.l.c., has been awarded full certification against the NIOSH Air Purifying Escape Respirator (APER) standard for the new 15 minute escape hood, NH15 (approval number TC-14G-0302).
- Proven Highest Levels of Protection for Avon’s FM53 Mask
- The FM53 mask has been specifically developed with the law enforcement and specialist military personnel in mind. - Avon Rubber p.l.c. secures MoD Mask Contract
- Avon Protection, part of Avon Rubber p.l.c. is pleased to announce the placement of a contract by the UK MoD. This contract covers a further three years requirement for the UK military’s in-service respirator, the S10. Avon are world leaders in the design, build and manufacture of CBRN respiratory protection and the S10 continues to be the global benchmark, setting the standard for levels of protection and comfort. The Avon family of respirators provides military, emergency responders, NATO, Special Forces and paramilitary forces with the most advanced products available.
- State of Illinois Awards $650K Respiratory Protection Contract to Avon
- Avon Protection Systems, Inc. and its distributor partner, Pro-Tech Sales, Inc., have announced the award of a contract in the amount of approximately $650,000 from the State of Illinois to produce up to 1500 respiratory protection devices for use by state agencies over the course of one year. Under the terms of the contract, Pro-Tech and Avon Protection will provide C50 model gas masks and filtration accessories to Illinois law enforcement end-users.

- Avon Protection Systems was awarded a $20,710,568 contract to provide 726,834 Chemical B canisters for the United States DoD Joint Service General Purpose Mask (JSGPM) Program.
- Avon Rubber p.l.c unveils SonarBell™ at DSEi
- Avon Rubber p.l.c. is unveiling SALT’s newest product the revolutionary SonarBell™ at Defence Systems and Equipment International 2009 (DSEi). The SonarBell™, which is a result of a collaboration between SALT, Avon Rubber p.l.c and ARTIS, is a maintenance free, passive sonar locator system, that operates by focusing energy like a lens to amplify sound levels and reflect them to the sender. Looking like a bowling ball, it utilises the two materials of its shell and core to create a constructive interference that delivers a higher return signal to the end user. The device is ‘solid state’ with no moving parts or power requirements, and is compatible with existing commercial sonar sets.

- New respirator service centre opens in Malaysia
- Avon Protection, part of Avon Rubber p.l.c., is expanding its operations by opening an essential service and repair centre for its respirators with a local Malaysian company. The new centre will be fully approved and Avon certified, and is to be managed by SG Defence Electronics and Radar Corporation. It will be equipped to service and repair a range of Avon masks, including the C50, FM12 and S10, all of which are currently in service in Malaysia. Over time, this will be expanded to handle all of Avon’s respiratory solutions.
- Avon Protection unveils 50 Series
- Avon Protection Systems, part of Avon Rubber p.l.c., is showcasing its unique 50 Series of respiratory solutions at the Seoul International Aerospace and Defence exhibition. The 50 family represents the world’s newest CBRN respirators, comprising the FM50, FM53 and C50. The FM50 is a twin conformal filter CBRN full face mask specifically designed to meet the latest NATO forces military mask requirements. It has been developed to counter the multiple CBRN threats encountered in modern war fighting, anti-terrorist and peace keeping operations, whilst providing high levels of comfort and a whole range of integration capability.
- Avons FM53 receives NIOSH Industrial Approval
- Avon Protection Systems, part of Avon Rubber p.l.c., has received NIOSH approval under Title 42, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 84 (42 CFR 84) for the FM53 Air Purifying Respirator with the CTF12 riot agent canister. This respirator is approved under approval number TC-14G-0304 and offers protection from particulate hazards including dust, mist, fume, bacteria and virus, plus riot agents, Chlorobenzalmalononitrile (CS) and Phenacyl chloride (CN).

- Symphony Environmental Technologies Plc (“Symphony”), the degradable plastics and wasteto-energy Group, announces that it’s wholly owned subsidiary, Symphony Energy Ltd (the “Company”) has now been officially advised by the Technology Strategy Board that the Company and its consortium partners have been offered a £1.19m grant for collaborative research and development in the area of High Value Manufacturing, for the consortium’s Rubber Product Enhanced Recovery Technology project (“RìPERT”). The Company is the lead partner; the other members of the consortium are ARTIS (a business of Avon Rubber P.l.c.), Imperial College London, ABB Limited (Robotics Division), Hughes Pumps Limited and Credowan Limited (Subsidiary of Cobham Plc).

- CADILLAC, Mich., April 21, 2008 – Specialist and tactical responders can now take advantage of Avon Protection Systems, Inc.’s new C420 powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) system. The C420 blower unit used with the company’s most advanced face masks recently received National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) approval.
- TRADING UPDATE AND BOARD CHANGES
- In our AGM statement we noted that growth in our Protection and Defence business had been slower than we anticipated and that the Company was expecting confirmation of the multi-year contract for the new M50 US military respirator in the very near future. The regulatory and administrative processes undertake by the US Government for contracts of this value and duration have taken much longer than previously projected.

- At the Annual General Meeting to be held today the Chairman, The Rt. Hon. Sir Richard Needham, will make the following statement to shareholders: “At the time of our preliminary statement at the end of November 2007, we said that the Group had reached a number of significant milestones. We had announced that the full rate production decision had been made on our new military respirator and that we had received NFPA certification for our new self-contained breathing apparatus product, manufactured at ISI in Georgia.
- BOARD AND SENIOR MANAGEMENT APPOINTMENTS
- Avon Rubber p.l.c. is pleased to announce the appointment to the Board of Andrew Lewis as Group Finance Director with effect from 8 September 2008.

- Commenting on the results, Peter Slabbert, Chief Executive said: “The award of the $112 million, multi-year contract by the US Government should underpin the Group’s return to profitability in the short term and secure a long-term and growing revenue stream for our Protection business. Our immediate priority is on increasing our profits through manufacturing efficiencies and cost reductions and converting significant opportunities for sales of our market leading range of respiratory protection products around the world.

- Local MPs Michael Ancram and Andrew Murrison slammed the Home Office and the Police in a House of Commons debate over failure to honour the Office of Government Contracting's Emergency Hood Contract with Avon Rubber at Melksham.
- Preliminary results for the year ended 30 September 2007
- Commenting on the results, Terry Stead, Chief Executive said: “Since the interimannouncement, the Group has reached a number of significant milestones. The second half of 2007 has shown improvement over the first half. With the approval of the new product at Avon-ISI and once the full rate production starts at our Cadillac facility, we expect this to continue. The Board is confident that this, together with continued investment in new product development, will lead to a period of sustainable and profitable growth for the Group.”

Martyn Bennett, ARTIS’ Chief Scientist, commented, "a partner with complimentary rheological skills in the thermoplastics sector will allow us to expand the services we can offer to our clients and we are looking forward to working with Gammadot".

- In the interim results announced on 28 May 2008, the Company stated that the award of the multiyear respirator contract by the US Department of Defense (DoD) and the expectation of securing long-term contracts for the Engineered Fabrications business, should underpin the Group’s return to profitability in the short-term. It was further explained that difficulties had been experienced in the production of filters for the M50 respirator, which had led to delays and cost overruns.
- Avon wins new defence contract
- Avon is pleased to announce that it has won, through its US based subsidiary Avon Engineered Fabrications, Inc. based in Mississippi, a five year contract for the supply of 210,000 gallon fuel storage tanks to Applied Geo Technologies Inc. for onward supply to the US Army.

- Sale of UK Mixing facility
- In January we announced that we were commencing the closure of our UK mixing facility, a process which we were pursuing at the time of the announcement of the interim results in May. We are now pleased to announce that the Group has completed the sale of certain of its mixing facility assets to ATR Compounding Limited for a consideration of £2.05 million, payable in cash. The proceeds will be used to reduce current borrowings.
- Preliminary results for year ended 30 September 2008
- Peter Slabbert, Chief Executive commented: “Our Dairy business remains successful, while the 10 year US Government M50 respirator programme, awarded in 2008, will provide strong and consistent future sales volumes contributing to a return to profitability in our Protection & Defence business.
